OK, so this isn't really a question - really a vent...

Earlier this week I logged into PBS to find that I had been offered one of my wishlist books - twice.   Yup, I had TWO offers for the same wishlist book on my home page - both from the same person.

Figuring it was a PBS glitch, I declined one of the offers and accepted the other.

Today the sender cancelled the order, with the message "I accidently posted this book twice."   So obviously what happened is that when I cancelled one of the offers, it rolled to the next person on the wishlist and that person accepted.  Unless the sender was watching carefully (or bothered to check into the details), she wouldn't know which one of us placed the order first.    So she cancelled mine.

I'm kicking myself because I should have realized that the cancelled WL offer would roll over.  I should have PM'd the sender immediately to tell her what had happened.    Dang!

W/L books are popping up like crazy this past couple of weeks.  Hang in there, maybe yours will come up again soon.

Which book was it?  Maybe I'm getting ready to list it!!  You never know!

So in future one should accept one offer and wait until it is accepted before acting on the other.

Wait a minute...  You can't post the same ISBN# again until you mark the first one mailed, right?  I mean, I've had duplicate copies of WL books before, and the system wouldn't accept the second one until I had marked the first one as mailed.  So how does this happen?

It's glitch city around here lately from the sound of things! Can't think of any other explanation as to how she could have posted it twice. It wasn't the other person who posted about taking their account off vacation hold and having books double-posted, was it?

That sounds like what happened to me (on a sender standpoint) --- took my account off vacation hold, and the same book popped up in wishlist holds TWICE going to the same person. Same ISBN and all, I know I couldn't have listed it twice (and I didn't).

I don't know how it actually got itself worked out. I emailed TPTB and got no reply. But, one day the requestor accepted one and the other just seemed to disappear? It went off into the great wide unknown. LOL

Anyway, finally ended up being one book, one requestor and one shipped. Phew .... This does seem to be a glitch that is happening more often this week!

That seems weird that both Lynne & the sender had the same duplicate posting glitch on both ends of the transaction.  Lynne was seeing two offers, and the sender must have been seeing two WL holds in order to know the book somehow got posted twice.  Unless she was just looking at her PBS shelf and saw two copies with pending request flags anyway.  So I guess when Lynne cancelled her duplicate offer, it rolled over to the next person in line, but you'd think the one Lynne didn't cancel would still be at the top of the list when the sender looked at her WL holds tab.  Or am I totally missing something obvious here?

If you get two offers, accept them both. Once the sender has two requests, she'll have to cancel one, but since both will be from you, you'll still get the book.

When the sender cancels, the book will probably end up back on your own wish list, so make sure to delete it before it gets offered to you again by someone else.

On the 18th I got two requests for one of my books. Both requests were from the same person. Since I only had one copy of the book, and since I couldn't figure out why someone would order two copies of the same book, and since AFAIK you cannot post multiple copies of a book to your bookshelf, I assumed it was a glitch. I cancelled one of the copies the same day it was requested. The following day (the 19th) the second copy was cancelled by the requester. The book rolled over to the next person on the wishlist. In retrospect, I wish I had PM'd the requester first to let them know what had occurred and how I was going to handle it. I hate to think that they lost out on a book because we both cancelled the extra copy and in effect cancelled the entire order.

If you let the PBS powers that be know what happened, they can reinstate you back to the front of the line. Let them know the dates and the info and they can help you with that.

Good thought Cathy.  That plan would have worked also.

And in retrospect I realize that you are all right.  You CAN'T post two copies of the same book at the same time.  So this had to be a PBS glitch.   PBS does seem to be awfully "glitchy" recently.

And I AM back at the front of the wishlist line.  So it hopefully won't be long before that book gets posted again.

FYI - The book is The Winter Rose by Jennifer Donnelly.
