I know I should read her in order, but this is the first one of Karin Slaughter's books I've read. I really, really enjoyed it, even though the climactic moment of confrontation with the villain was very graphic and I abhor violence against women and children. I will definitely read more of her.

This thriller kept my interest through to the end. It is a "must read" if you are a mystery buff! A victim is buried alive in the Georgia woods and the story evaolves around a medical examiner and her ex-husband who is a police chief who work to solve the murder and there is a series of "shocking and sordid revelations. Guaranteed to enjoy!

This is a slow start and a little confusing because there are several characters to introduce, but once it gets going, hang on! I read the last 190 pages in one sitting because I had to! An excellent thriller with twists and turns

5th book in Sara Linton series. I have so much sympathy for Lena. She is so screwed up and she knows it. How can she save anyone else if she can't save herself? Sara and Jeffrey literally stumble over the pipe sticking up from a grave. Using their hands to dig to the coffin they find the body of a woman. Sara, Jeffrey and Lena are again in the middle of a suspenseful story of greed, control, abuse and murder.

Another hit, 4 stars.

Medically accurate, turn the page reading and a couple that makes you pull for their success in a "not my type" couple of people that should not be together, but still can't stay away from each other and somehow make you understand that "not my type" pull :)

I enjoyed this book. The author tells a great tale. I sometimes wonder if they speak more about themselves as writers than they do their characters. For some reason I felt that way about this book.

Faithless is the fifth book in the Grant County series, which features pediatrician/medical examiner Sarah Linton and her ex-husband/current boyfriend/police chief Jeffery Tolliver. In this installment of the series, Sarah and Jeffery stumble across the body of a teenage girl who was buried alive. Their investigation leads them to discover the dark secrets of a fundamentalist religious sect living in their midst.

Unlike the earlier books, Faithless sacrifices relentless suspense for character. I wondered if Karen Harper co-authored this book secretly with Slaughter. (If you have read any of Harper's Amish mysteries you will know what I mean). The interesting parts of the book concern Lena, one of Jeffery's deputies, and Sarah's constantly evolving relationship with Jeffery. Because of this, I would not recommend this book as a good place to start for those who are unfamiliar with the Grant County series, but for fans it is worth the read just to learn what becomes of Lena and her abusive boyfriend Ethan.

I thought this book was good. It started out a little slow, but it really picked up speed in the middle. I don't think this is my favorite Grant County series book, but she stayed true to all the characters and getting more in depth with their storylines. If you like the series you have to read this book. It answered several questions for me.

I got this book as a Barnes and Noble bargain book and read it not knowing there were 4 prequels. However, I loved it and while I did feel like there could have books before this one it wasn't one of those books that you have to read the previous ones just to get a clue of what in the world is going on. I highly recommend this book. I have since read the 4 prequels and while I liked some of their story lines better, I like how this one is a little more toned down when it comes to the violence (Everything that happened in Kisscut was almost a little to intense for me)

The latest in Slaughter's series about Jeffery, Sara, Lena and the rest of the Heartdale group, this book does not disappoint.

The action is quick right from the beginning of the book, where we read about a girl being buried alive. Later, Sara and Jeffrey find a coffin out in the woods... with someone inside. The girl was left with an air passage, so why is she dead?

The investigation leads the police to a small religious community out in the country. Are they as innocent as they seem or did one of the members of the church have something to do with the girl's death?

Gripping, gruesome, and terrifying, this book is another must-read story from Karin Slaughter!

FAITHLESS By Karin Slaughter (Bantam Dell) The publicity blurb says Faithless will be (Slaughters) breakthrough hardcover bestseller. Its the same cast as Slaughters previous Grant County, Georgia novels with Lena, Sara, Jeffrey, Carlos and the rest. A young woman has been buried alive with a breathing tube, but then poisoned with cyanide. The autopsy reveals she is pregnant and, it turns outs she is part of the Church of Greater Good, a soybean cooperative that uses Atlanta homeless people as workers. With sentences like this one -(Lena) wasnt used to being around religious people unless they were down at the police station. - I agree with the publicity blurb. This is a great one.

Though still an excellent novel and a page turning read, I find myself getting a bit bored and tired of the characters - who never seem to learn from their mistakes or grow from their experiences... Sara and Jeffrey ride the same old rollercoaster of emotions and blame.... Lena is still buried in angst over the loss of her twin... I find myself wanting to shout at them to grow up and move on with finding the "murderer" and living their lives! Could be just me but I am looking forward to reading her newest (TRIPTYCH) which I have waiting and which is a standalone... If you can take the puling of the characters in this one, it is a page turner.

Another excellent book in the Linton/Tolliver series. Sara and Jeffrey stumble across the burial of a young woman obviously buried alive in a wooden coffin with a breathing tube and provisions. They worry that she might have been saved if she had been found before she ran out of air, but autopsy shows she died of cyanide poisoning. This odd turn of events starts an investigation into old secrets and new acts of evil.

#5 in the series
Slaughter's dark, forensic-driven Grant County series of crime novels has always drawn a thin line between the members of the law-enforcement team and the victims of the crimes being investigated. The title of the fifth entry in the series reflects both the marital difficulties of coroner Sara Linton and her ex-husband, police chief Jeffrey Tolliver, and the label affixed to certain willful members of a religious cult. Jeffrey makes a grisly discovery in the woods when he stumbles over a metal pipe. A young woman was buried alive in a wooden crate for several days and appears to have died of asphyxiation. But Sara's autopsy reveals a far different scenario. Jeffrey and officer Lena Adams' investigation leads to a farm owned by the Church of the Greater Good, which appears to have used burial as a form of punishment before. Meanwhile, Lena finds her own sick relationship with an abusive lover mirrored in the marriage of a former cult member who has damning information but is too afraid to disclose it for fear of provoking another vicious beating from her husband. Slaughter cannily incorporates any number of women's issues--from the difficult work of rebuilding a ruined relationship to finally figuring out when to call it quits--within a compulsively readable narrative.

I loved this book. Hard to put down. I did not realize it is part of series, which is good writing in my opinion. No one likes to start a book and feel you missed important things that help you understand what you are reading. This writer isn't too wordy (overly descriptive about landscape, etc.) which I appreciate. I would like to read more of this series because I like the characters and the story is very well written.
