A new character for Parker, but really interesting. Another great read.

Every time I read one of Parker's books I wonder why he isn't as well-known as say, James Patterson. He is a remarkable author in that his characters show depth and humanity, and his plotting is suspenceful and real. This is one of his best, IMHO. The premise is so fascinating, that the main character, a police detective, can see others' emotions, projected as colored shapes from their words--a neurological condition called synethesia.

I wanted this to turn into a series so I could continue to be involved in the lives of this protagonist and the cast of characters!

My first book by T. Jefferson Parker, but certainly not my last. An interesting character study of a "gifted" detective who can "see" the true emotions of others, friends and foes alike, through colored shapes as they speak. But more than that, it's simply a good who-done-it detective story where almost everyone has a motive for the murder the story revolves around. Worth the read.

A good cop has psychic abilities where he sees shapes come out of peoples mouths based on what emotion they are feeling: Envy is green boxes, red is lies, etc. I thought this was a pretty good book about the city of San Diego and what extent the political leader's are willing to go to to protect their city, even when covering up the death of one of their own.

Parker is fast becoming one of my all-time favorites. The writing comes across in the easy flowing manner that only a master storyteller can deliver, and the plot and characters are first-rate. I hope this is the beginning of a series character, although that hasn't been Parker's M.O. all too often. Whether it's the start of what could be a great long-running series or another superb Parker one-shot, it's well worth reading.

An undiscovered gem of a detective/mystery writer. TJ Parker writes as well as JL Burke or James Patterson. The characters are people you wish you could know better. I wish he'd develop some of his characters into series books too. Sometimes the evidence point one way but some small thing points another. THAT's what makes a good mystery. Parker unravels the mystery splendidly with his hero cops beset by all too human troubles on all sides. I HIGHLY recommend this book, and also his earlier work "Little Saigon."

I have read several of Parker's books before. This one is really an excellent police procedual with an odd twist---the hero sees emotions of what people are saying as colored shapes coming out of their mouths. That sounds "hokie," but really is well integrated with the story and I would heartily recommend this book!

Garrett ASplundh's body is found under a San Diego bridge. Is his death an execution or a crime of passion, a personal vendtta or the final step in an elaborate cover-up. Great characters and suspense.

My favorite author. This one is set in San Diego, CA. He did not disappoint me! All of his characters are well thought out and he does not have a repeating main character. Each book is unique in flavor and persons and places!

One of the many things I love about Parker is that he's an elegant writer. His characters are multi-dimensional and this book proves that point. He's become another of my favorite writers.
