This second novel by one of America's premier short story writers shows her talent is equally evident in the novel format. The story turns on the fortunes & misfortunes of two couples with too much history between them and the people around them. Beautifully told with Ms Beattie's excellent sense insight, sensitivity & humor as usual, every page rings true of contemporary life.
