Terry Delaney has a relatively satisfying life-a companionable marriage, an undemanding job, and an up-and-coming career as a player in the Australian Rugby League. But his world turns upside down when he falls in love with the daughter of his employer, Rudi Kabbel. Rudi is possessed with apocalyptic visions and with demons from a tormented childhood in Nazi-occupied Europe: Rudi's father, a Nazi collaborator, betrayed his wife to save his own neck, and Rudi himself was used as a pawn between the Nazis and the Russians. The family madness runs deep. It has enthralled the Kabbel family, and its malevolent force will bring Terry face to face with the lasting effects of wartime evil.
