Far from Home offers an intimate glimpse into the lives of three families on the Oregon, Colorado, New Mexico and North dakota frontiers. The trials, deprivations and hardships they endured surely takes away all the "romantic notions" that we have about the early pioneers.

I've read this book several times over the years. It really speaks to me since my ancestors also traveled westward from various European countries. This is so much more real than reading dry, historical texts covering this time period.
