Agreed. She may not have been my first HF, but I remember the miniseries The Thornbirds well, and my mom reading the book and sharing it with me.....very early into my a, addiction.....

I read Thornbirds back in the late 80s, after seeing the mini-series.  I re-read it years later, and it still engaged me to the point of reading all night without realizing I was doing so.
