It is just before christmas at St. Anselm's the famous and fashinable Episcopal parish on Manhattan's Upper East Side. The Norwich Boys' Choir from England is expected shortly to join together with St. Anselm's own choir in a festival of Advent music. The rector's christmans guest, a former dean of St. Paul's in London, has already arrived. Tragically, so has death when the dean's body is found at the foot of the parish house stairs, his head crushed. When another murder takes place a day later, the Reverend claire Aldington, St. Anselm's pastoral counselor and self styled sleuth, and Lieutenant O'Neill of the NYPD are pluged into their most baffling and complex case. For Claire it is also the most nervewracking as, more and more, suspicion points to her husband, Brett Cunningham.
