Detective Sgt. Samantha Holland is given the lead ont he Senator John O'Connor homicide investigation. Senator O'Connor's body was discovered by this Chief of Staff and best friend, Nick Cappuano. Sam wonders if Nick will be a major obstacle in solving this murder since she had a one night stand with him six years ago. As Sam uncovers the details and secrets of Senator O'Connor's life, Nick helps her with the investigation. But concentrating on the case is not easy when her feelings for Nick keep coming to the surface.

The first book in Marie Force's Fatal series is a winner. We have a solid mystery, great romance and well developed characters. Although there wasn't a lot of suspense in it, the story has the feel of a police procedural since we see the investigation step by step. I'm looking forward to the next book in the series. My rating: 4.5 Stars.

Sam Holland is a Detective Sergeant with the Metro Police department in Washington, D.C. Shes just back from a leave, and her confidence is in shreds. Her last case a child died, and Sam just cant forgive herself. She needs to rebuild her confidence and her career.

Nick Cappauono is the Chief of Staff for U.S. Senator John OConnor. Nick and John are brothers of the heart; they've been friends for years. John is a heavy sleeper, so on the day of the biggest vote of his career, he oversleeps. Nick, angry, goes to wake him up at his Watergate apartment, but he finds John murdered in his own bed.

Sam is given the case, she needs a win in a big way. But the moment Nick and Sam see each other, old memories come back. Six years ago, they had a one night stand, and never saw one another again. Nick claims he called, but Sams roommate, later ex-husband, never relayed the messages. Now, the two of them can feel the sparks between them. But, they must first find out who murdered the Senator.

A Fatal Affair is a top-notch romantic suspense. The characters are well-fleshed and come to life from the pages. The plot is solid and will have you turning the pages late into the night, not knowing who the killer is until the final climax. If you love romantic suspense, give A Fatal Affair a try. I really enjoyed it!
