When sisters Jenny and Betty Carr inherit a fortune and a condo in New York, they quit their native Missouri for the glamorous city. Starry-eyed Betty has set her sights on a dancing career. Through an unsavory cousin she meets a man who can help--the middle-aged, sleekly sophisticated Antonio Braselmo. An affair ensues, auditions roll by, and Betty gets nowhere. Reckless, she gambles half her inheritance on a show that flops--and then she promptly disappears.

Jenny sets out to find her sister, a London postcard her only clue. From handsome journalist Mike Baker she learns just how unscrupulous and dangerous Braselmo really is. The two embark on a desperate search through Paris and the Swiss Alps, winding down with a confrontation both deadly and bizarre.
