I am an avid reader of everything and after catching 'Unforgiven' on television one afternoon I had the craving for a Western. So - I was at the store and saw this book and decided to give it a bite. I'm glad I did! It was a very good story. Of course, this type of book won't bang down the doors of the great literature halls, but for a story it was well worth the money.

The premise of the story is obvious and the plot is predictable, but what I really liked about the book is that Compton made me laugh several times and also put my imagination to work when the main character got into some trouble with odd outlaws. Compton also gets you to FEEL emotionally for the main character - which for me gives the story huge credibility. For all that - the book would get 5 stars. However, a few tangles in Compton's language broke my attention a couple times and although the ending was great, it seemed rushed, so I have to knock off a star for that. Still - this is a very good story and I'm glad I was able to experience a wonderful ride with Marshal Asher Thrall.
