Very interesting story of a very strong woman who lives her life like a man. Starting as a laundress with and cook with General Zachary "Old Rough and Ready" Jackson, and riding among the flames of the war with Mexico rescuing the wounded. High Spirited, brave and lusty.

Another excellent historical novel by Lucia St. Clair Robson. She was a force of nature, the story of Sara Bowman who followed the army and participated in the Florida campaign against the Seminoles, and rode with Zachary Taylor to Mexico for the revolution there. Taller and stronger than most men, as she rode among the flames rescuing wounded soldiers, manning the cannons, and built a family of homeless women and children. Tho tougher than nails, she had a warm heart and helped many on the trail.
