Has anyone ever rec'd a book by Fed Ex before?  I just rec'd one today, came home and it was at my front door.  I wonder what that set the member back!

I used to work for a company in Manhattan. We could use the corporate FedEx account for personal use, then we would pay the Office Manager (me!) when the bill came in. A FedEx envelop would cost the employee about $3. If I still had that job, I'd mail FedEx, too.

I have, also have gotten some via UPS, and the amount of postage on the label was quite high if I remember right, in both cases. I was sort of baffled as to why anyone would do that. Both books were hardcovers and quite hefty, one was wrapped in brown paper and then had a mailing label from Fed Ex and the other was in a bubble mailer with UPS label/sticker on them--they weren't in an envelope of any kind. Maybe with an employee discount it wouldn't be so bad.

I'd mail first class USPS before I'd use any of the package delivery services.  But then I don't get any discounts either.

They may be sneaking it in under the radar at their workplace. Or maybe they WORK (or a family member) for FEDEX and get a discount.

No, but I had one come UPS overnight delivery. It was mailed 3 weeks late, which I presume is the reason for the overnight service.

I had someone at a different swap site who refused to lower the value on some books I wanted because it was going to cost her over $10 to ship them either UPS or FedEx (forget which).  It would have been about $4 media mail!

Well someone posted on the US Mail board about how much her mother had over paid for shipping her books through a UPS mailing store.  They didn't expect it to cost so much more than the PO.  So that could be why some people do it-they don't realize until they go that it costs so much more.

My mother can send packages free through her companies UPS account as long as she doesn't go crazy with the shipping. But she sends my daughters gifts that way. The company just writes it off as a business expense. But she doesn't abuse the situation.  I don't know how they'd feel about her sending several books every week.  But it could be that these people only use their work one once in a while when pressed for time or sending large books.

I've seen people post on here that they send all their book priority because they want the credits faster.  I'd pay for PBS postage before I did that. It would be cheaper and PBS benefits from the postage fee.

My husband uses Fed Ex to ship stuff.. but not books.  They don't have a rate, at least for the common person, that can touch Media Mail.  However, that person might have a good corporate rate.

We used to Ship non-book stuff using DHL because the corporate rate was GREAT!... so great that might have been part of the reason they went out of business.
