I've always liked this book as a read-aloud, unfortunately, the kids I read it to (Kindergarteners through 3rd graders in the Coachella Valley of southern California) don't play as much baseball as the perfect world of my youth, so they don't seem to appreciate its beauty. A little bit ho-hum to them.
