In Fifty Years We'll All Be Chicks: . . . And Other Complaints from an Angry Middle-Aged White Guy
In Fifty Years We'll All Be Chicks And Other Complaints from an Angry MiddleAged White Guy
Author: Adam Carolla
A couple years back, I was at the Phoenix airport bar.  It was empty except for one heavy-set, gray bearded, grizzled guy who looked like he just rode his donkey into town after a long day of panning for silver in them thar hills.  He ordered a Jack Daniels straight up, and that's when I overheard the young guy with the earring behind the bar...  more »

It's a sad and eerie harbinger of our times that the Oprah-watching, crystal-rubbing, Whole Foods-shopping moms and their whipped attorney husbands have taken the ability to reason away from the poor schlub who makes the Bloody Marys.  What we used to settle with common sense or a fist, we now settle with hand sanitizer and lawyers.  Adam Carolla has had enough of this insanity and he's here to help us get our collective balls back.

In Fifty Years We'll All Be Chicks is Adam's comedic gospel of modern America. He rips into the absurdity of the culture that demonized the peanut butter and jelly sandwich, turned the nation's bathrooms into a lawless free-for-all of urine and fecal matter, and put its citizens at the mercy of a bunch of minimum wagers with axes to grind. Peppered between complaints Carolla shares candid anecdotes from his day to day life as well as his past?Sunday football at Jimmy Kimmel's house, his attempts to raise his kids in a society that he mostly disagrees with, his big showbiz break, and much, much more. Brilliantly showcasing Adam's spot-on sense of humor, this book cements his status as a cultural commentator/comedian/complainer extraordinaire.

ADAM CAROLLA is a radio and television host, comedian, and actor. He is the host of the Adam Carolla Podcast, before which he hosted a weekday morning radio program broadcast from Los Angeles, and syndicated by CBS Radio. Besides these shows, Carolla is well known as the co-host of the radio show Loveline (and its television incarnation on MTV), as the co-creator and co-host of Comedy Central's The Man Show, and as the co-creator and the performer on Comedy Central and MTV's Crank Yankers and is a frequent contributor and contestant on ABC's top-rated program "Dancing with the Stars". Carolla also starred in, co-wrote, and co-produced the award-winning independent film, The Hammer. He currently lives in Los Angeles with his wife and their two children.

This book was hilarious! I was literally laughing out loud during a lot of this book! The book is written like he talks, if you've ever listened to his radio show or podcast you will totally understand.

Granted, Adam Carolla isn't Steinbeck or any other type of literary genius by any means, but it was funny and he did have some good points about life. I loved the chapters about the worst songs ever and cutting the cords of his newborn twins. But I could have cared less about the bonus chapter about all the different sports.

Overall, a very funny book and I liked that you don't have to be a guy to appreciate his comedic sense of humor.

Adam covers a lot of topics, that we all think of but find it difficult to articulate. You'll learn his feelings on everything from pizza to politics, flying first class to taking a ceramics class, he discusses homophobia and home immporvement. He also gives you some background on his life. After reading that I am AMAZED that he didn't grow up to be a serial killer. :-)
I enjoyed reading the book and I share his feelings on many things. His political views are somewhat neutral (he's said be conservative by liberals and being liberal by conservatives). I think most Americans feel the same way he does.
Now, for the "problem" I "kinda" have. In the first 20 pages of this book, he dropped the "F" bomb no less that 60 times. Although I am NOT offended, I can see that some people would be offended by this type of language.
I loved his list at the end. He's shared his Bucket List with the reader. I have some of those items on my Bucket List.
Read it if you are NOT offended by foul language.

I loved this book, but I will say that it is not for the faint of heart. If you have ever heard Adam and his random rants, you will know exactly what this book is. I have never laughed out loud as much while reading any other book before.

There are many ideas that he has, that could offend some people, but you just have to know that going in, and know how Adam acts. I definitely did not agree with him on every aspect, but he at least brings up some good points on a lot of things that he complains about.
