I have met Michael Calvert before, while reading about the Chindits and the actions of the British 14th Army in Southwest Asia during World War II. As a brigade commander his name was up there in lights in some of the most savage, long term fighting that ever took place behind enemy lines.

However, it was a real thrill to read this book about his career in World War II by the man himself. Not only does he discuss high-level planning by names known to all WW II buffs, but he also describes the individual actions performed by the men in the front lines, including himself.

If they decide to make another serious movie about World War II, then this should be right near the top of possible scripts. Unfortunately, it probably won't happen as the main 'hero' is a Brit. Of course, they could get Brad Pitt to star and let him use another terrible accent.

One really great aspect of this book is the humor that General Calvert continually displays in recounting the achievements of himself and others.

If you are looking for a fun read about a deadly serious war, then obtain a copy of "Fighting Mad."
