I had posted a book and it was recently requested. I looked and looked all over the house, but couldn't find it. I called a couple of people to whom I might have loaned it (because I posted it some time ago, I thought I might have forgotten), but they say they don't have it. I know it must be here somewhere, but for the life of me I don't know where. So I cancelled the order the day before it was to time out, and I explained the situation in the space provided, and apologized to the requester. My question is: what happens now? Does the requester get to read my explanation? Do I get a black mark for this? I really did post it in good faith and I'm sorry it's gone missing. I imagine I need to remove it from my bookshelf, and re-post it if/when I find it? This is the first time such a thing has happened to me, and I'd love to get your input. Thanks.

I don't know if the requester sees the explanation or not. But I wouldn't worry about it anyway. It will only count against you if it becomes a habit. Over the years I've had to cancel a few for various reasons, even a couple of WL books I posted and it never caused any harm to my account. Most people on here realize that people make mistakes. |

Yes, if you accepted the request and then clicked Can't Mail, the request or will see the message in the email the site sends. Don't worry about it, that's why the site made a cancel button in the first place, because stuff happens. I cancel books now and again as well. I can always find them, but sometimes I notice that they are unpostable after all.

It is important to enter a reason. PBS counts how often we do this. But real life happens, and they know that. |

Sara & Emily When you cancel the request, the system should automatically remove the book from your bookshelf. If it turns up, you will need to repost it. |

One thing that has helped me -- after I click that I can mail the book and choose a date, the transaction will show the date I posted the book. I then sort my bookshelf by date and find other books I posted at the same time. Often that triggers my memory as to where the book is. |

I've had that happen too........I think those are the books the fairies have borrowed to read! But I only have around 150 books posted and last week I had gone thru over 100 before I found the one that was requested so I was fearing it was another that had disappeared! |

Jean, I think the lost books are somewhere, happily nestled in among missing unmatched socks from the dryer and tupperwear lids. Perhaps they are being read by all those child actors who disappeared once they reached puberty. Last Edited on: 7/14/14 4:52 PM ET - Total times edited: 1 |

I use Rubbermaid type containers that you can get at like any store for 10-15 dollars and store all my books that way because I don't have the room to display them in bookshelves. I keep all the books that I want to post on here in a container either a different color and clear or clear and them I used my computer to make 8X11(typing paper pages) labels so that I know what is in each container. For Example one of my favorite authors is Jayne Ann Krentz so I have all of her books in a container labeled (on all 4 sides) with her name. That way no matter what way the container is facing I can see what is in it. When some one requests books from me I go to the container and look through it to find the book then I'm not having to track them down. Hope this helps someone. |
