I keep running across sex scenes where it's made very clear that the couple is doing something... not usually on the menu, so to speak, and I'm left wondering what the hell it was.  It always seems like the reader is supposed to know what's been going on, and I don't have a clue.  Does that happen to anyone else? I'm pretty sure I do know the potential combinations.

Post it and maybe we can help you figure it out (does that sound pervy?).

I often read them and get confused because they seem physically impossible. Unless the hero has a 2ft appendage or the heroine has no bones.

ETA:  I see this a lot "he had had everyway he possibly could and still could not get enough" Or something like that and I've always wondered if that included going in the back door to say it discreetly.  But then later in the book, she'll give him oral sex for the first time and so you think, didn't he "have her in every way possible" earlier in the book?

Mary, that's exactly the sort of thing I'm talking about. Where something is obliquely described to sound really out there, yet you know from the context that it couldn't possibly have been all that different.

I can't remember a specific example, but I run across one I'll post it.

Well I've often wondered how they end up having sex 4 or 5 times IN A ROW with multiple multiple orgasms each.  Seems a bit of a stretch.  Maybe once or twice but EVERY TIME they have sex??

Sherri,  I guess that's why they call it "fiction".    LOL

I often find the sex scenes very unbelieveable.

Especially referring to what Sherri said :-)

Sherri has voiced my question.  And I want to know how these people go to work after being up all night having sex.  If I don't get a good 8 hours in, I'm dragging the next day.

Anyone who's ever tried to have sex in water takes those scenes with a grain of salt, I can tell you. ;-)

darn it, I recently read a book and honestly reread the scene two or three times and still had no clue what the he!! was going on!  Wish I could recall the book, but it's lost in the recesses.

LOL @ Willa!

I also wonder about the multiple O's, as well as a guy with zero refraction time.  Maybe I'm not doing something, or
someone, right. but I've never "reached my bliss" 5 times in a row during the same sex session, and even when at his horniest and in younger days, DH needed a bit of "down time" between sessions.

Not usually, but what types of books is this happening in?  Maybe erotica?  I don't read alot of straight erotica so maybe it's different.  Or are you inexperienced?

I agree, please post the confusing passage. We're all pervs here!

I have experienced multiple O's but it was in some of our younger marathon sessions.  It's been awhile, but it's happened.

I've never found sex in water fun.  I've read so many romances where they are kissing and licking each others soapy bodies.   Yuk.  Soap tastes nasty and doesn't it cause diahrea (spell?)?? My experience with shower sex is: someone is freezing, someone is seriously fighting for balance and someone is getting pelted on the head or face with the shower spray.  And water has a way of washing away your bodies natural oils and drying things out if you know what I mean.

Exactly my experiences! Foreplay in the shower is fine, but you need to move to dry land to finish things off in the proper way, IMO.

Am I the only one who has a spouse (or someone) who's willing to throw himself on the sword and help me figure out how some of these scenes can work?  I was sitting one night with a puzzled look on my face, he asked what's up, and I explained I couldn't quite figure out this scene and ... well ... he helped me.

Personally, I've never been able to get into the morning sex scenes where they just kind of wake up and start going at it right away.  My first thought in the morning is going to the bathroom, then I might crawl back into bed but I'm certainly not doing anything before hitting the bathroom.

Oh I don't get the morning sex thing either.

We had sex on the stairs after watching a History of Violence.

Morning = morning breath and a need to pee.  Neither are turn-ons for me, so no thank you to first thing in the AM sex.

Stairs (and they were carpeted) = bruised butt.  Ouch.

OK, I LIKE morning "activities". maybe I'm wierd though,  I call it "sleepy sex"  I wish I got it more. There is nothing better than waking up to THAT.

Shower sex--- doesnt work if the female is as tall or taller than the male,

Water sports can be fun, but they are not really romantic

DeeDee- my Hubby helps me out with the scenes as well.

Brandy, your definition of water sports hopefully must be different than the one with which I am familiar!

Sex in the tub or the pool doesn't work and is very uncomfortable (unless you use vaseline I suppose).  All that water washes away the necessary lubrication.

I read a sex scene once where the hero was kissing the heroine passionately while entering her from behind (doggy style).  Am I naive or would one or both have to be a contortionist to have this work?

As someone who's had two ruptured discs, I just cringed when I read that!  Of course there was that guy on the bad covers thread with the unnaturally long neck...
