DW started it last night and says so far it's the best thing George has written in some years.

I read it last week and I agree with your DW, Les!

I had to hunt to find this thread.  It made me sad to see Les on the thread.  I miss him.

Anyway, I just finished "Careless in Red."   It was amazing.  I totally agree with previous posters.  I also believe it's the best she's written in years and I always love her writing.  I just wish I had gone ahead and bought it the zillion times I looked at it and thought about just doing it.  (BTW, It's still a terribly long wish list on it.  I did post it FIFO because the wait was SO long, I didn't feel right otherwise on this one.)

Mostly, I wanted to say that if you are a George fan and have been waiting for this one, just go ahead and buy it!!  It is definitely worth it.  And I don't buy anything new any more--my TBR pile is too huge.

I have this one in my stack but I haven't gotten to it. I have to admit that I was really disappointed in "What Came Before...." so I am looking forward to reading this one. I've only heard good things about it!

I loved "Careless......". It was great to have Lynley & Havers back.  Even damaged, Lynley is a wonderful character. Although, I have to state that I actually enjoy Havers even more. I am hoping that she brings Simon and Deborah back in a future novel. If I have one complaint about "Careless..." it is that they were missing. And that's why I hope they return in the next one - to aide in Lynley's recovery.  E. George & Deborah Crombie are probably my two favorite contemporary mystery writers.

I started What Came Before..... and got about 50 pages into it and stopped. I hated it. It made me afraid that the next novel would be awful. Thankfully, I was wrong.

Wow, I am glad all of you liked her latest. I have been a fan of George's for some time. However, I was a little disappointed in Careless in Red. For me, the story just plodded along and it didn't seem to the element of suspense I enjoyed in her earlier novels.
