First, it's a long book (650+ pages paperback) about a comet hitting earth. First 250+ pages was about the comet approaching and hitting earth. It broke into at least 12 pieces (I would call that a worst case scenario) and so every ocean and every continent was affected.) Lots of characters here, it would be hard to follow even if it were a movie, but many of them come together later in the book somehow. Second half of book is about pockets of people surviving, barely, and the criminals and starving hordes they have to fight off. It's on my bookshelf if you want to request it. By Jerry Pournell and Larry Niven. Two excellent writes.

This was a really good book. I like how they had the leadup to the disaster and then showed the after affects and humanity striving to continue. |

So, have you read "FOOTFALL" the other book where Niven and Pournelle use the same basic premise (A comet, striking the earth) BUT to different results? It's a very interesting book also.
What I love about "Lucifer's Hammer" is the people who try to salvage civilazation's knowledge. How many of us would even have it together enough when an event like this occurs to even care to do so?
We might not make it anyway: Apocalypse 2012 |
