Although I ship most of my books by media mail, I will occasionally get a book that's light enough to ship by first class mail. However, it seems like I have more problems with first class packages than I have with media mail packages!

I use PBS postage and delivery confirmation on all my packages. So far, I've had three first class packages that were never scanned. One is now lost, one eventually arrived after a long delay, and one is still outstanding. Even the one that was eventually delivered was never scanned. (These were all 150-200 page books that were wrapped using PBS wrapping, so they were definitely thick enough to qualify.) This is out of maybe 10 or 12 books I've mailed by first class mail. Compared with more than 80 media mail packages that have all been scanned and delivered with no problems. Often, it seems like the media mail packages arrive just as quickly than the first class packages in many cases.

I'm just wondering, am I just unlucky or are first class packages less likely to be scanned? I get my credit either way since I'm using PBS postage, but I hate for a book to just disappear, and I've had more problems with first class packages than with any others.
