There were extraneous chapters and sections in this book that didn't need to be included, the plot isn't always engaging, and the world has a very heavy masculine aura that can weigh you down at times (even with the female narrator) but this is probably the best-written book I've read all year. I read Telex in Cuba and liked it but wasn't blown away-not sure what changed for Kushner in the intervening years but her writing is just staggering in this novel. Recommended on that basis alone.
