I like almost all of Clyde Edgerton's books, but this is my absolute favorite. I adore the characters, and this book takes you from hilarious to heartbroken - just like life often does. Not many writers have the Southern dialect down as well as Edgerton.

this book was a quick read. i love edgerton's writing style (a la walking across egypt), and this is a great example of it. the story is a little weak, but his imagery and characters are amazingly strong.
