This novel is a wonderful blend of history (Victorian England) and adventure (a young woman is asked by secret agents to pose as a governess to gather information.) Liberty Lane is a endearing heroine. I'm looking forward to reading the next book, DEATH OF A DANCER.

Good light historical mystery. A little slow to start off with, but once you get going, it gets good. Quick read, definitely interested in reading the next in the series. Story was a little predictable though....

Entertaining (but not outstanding) historical fiction. I will probably read the next in the series if I can get it through pbs, but I would not pay full price for it.

I had read the second one (sequel) first and enjoyed it more. I was glad to read this one - the story of a young woman in Victorian England (the early years) who has to make her own way once her father is killed. She seems to have NO fear and often seems to have little sense. She is successful, but takes more risks than anyone I know.
