I'm still in the dark about a few things in the forums.  For example, what is hijacking and spin-offs?  What makes them bad?  Also, what is a thread?  What are swaggers?

I would like to participate in some of the word games, and each time I see one (even if it wasn't there a few hours ago) they always seem to have like thousands of replies already!!  Why do some of them have posted dates as far back as last year or months ago, yet the post wasn't there the day before???  Please enlighten me!  lol

Thanks!!

Hi Gina!

Threads are the individual discussions under a heading.  Your post for example, begins a discussion 'thread' in the forum titled 'Questions About Paperbackswap'.

To hijack a discussion thread would refer to changing the subject of the OP (original post).  Let's say I mention a different topic, and comments after mine continue to discuss my new topic ... I would have 'hijacked' your discussion onto another topic.  It is not polite to hijack someone else's discussion.

Spin offs would be where members open a new discussion thread instead of hijacking your original thread.  The new spin-off might be a similar subject, a different subject, or like word association just something your subject brought to mind.

Regarding the dates on long discussion threads you didn't see yesterday?  There are many pages of discussions, but only the first page opens when you click on the Forum icon.  If you look above the blue box in the "Questions About Paperbackswap" forum, there's a 'page 1' pull down indicator ... if you pull it down you can see there are actually 266 pages of discussion threads.  When a member posts a new comment to a discussion thread, it causes that thread to be pulled forward to page #1.  The most recent comment post always moves into the #1 slot in the forum.

I think swaggers are people who do Swag Bucks (or something like that) on a different website. They converse here. I don't know much about it and because I don't do Swag Bucks, I just ignore the threads.

Denise, omg, I've been hijacking and didn't even know it!!  I feel bad now! I'm surprised nobody called me on it. Guess they chalked it up to being an ignorant newbie!  Thanks so much for clearing that up for me and all the other info, too!!

Don't worry about hijacking.  Some of the best threads are the ones that have taken many a twist and turn.  Once in a while someone gets in a wad about it, but not often.
