The book was certainly intense and suspenseful, but I don't know that some of the uh, freakier stuff in it couldn't have been left out.

I totally couldn't get into this one. It was slow, had several plots going at once and in my opinion not developing but full blown situations that required you to multi-focus too early on. I decided I didn't care to stick with it.
