Jennifer M. (Kaydence) reviewed Fractured (Guards of the Shadowlands, Book Two) on + 380 more book reviews
First, I knew this was book two in the series going in, but I just didn't have enough time to read book 1 before the review was due. So, I knew that I would go into this with a bit of information missing. Lucky for me, there is enough background given and the characters are well developed enough that I still really got into this book.
Summary:
Lela and Malachi have enrolled in high school and are pretending to be normal teenagers as they are preparing to battle Mazikin. In this battle, Lela is not only fighting for herself, but the world as well. Along the way she is also having some romantic problems with Malachi and training her two new Guards to be normal people.
My thoughts:
The beginning of the book is really full of action and flies by. It is really hard to put it down because of the slammed in action. Then it slows down and builds a lot of relationships. I think this is what saved me in the book. Both characters, Lela and Malachi are heavily described and there is a lot of inner growth and decision making. There are a lot of mistakes that Lela makes, but they are used to help her learn more information about the situations that she is in. From what I understand, the instalove that was found in the first book has been heavily explored in this one. I feel their relationship easily and it does not seem like what was described in book one (based on reading reviews). I'm going to go back and read the first book and then continue on in this series. It is very interesting and I'd like to know what is to come.
