I just wasn't impressed with the majority of the stories in this book. Some of the poetry was nice, but that was about it. It was a quick read but nothing in it was really that memorable, for me anyways.

One day, I came across this book and decided to check it out. I'd heard of Gaiman, but never read anything by him (Anyone with a monstrous list of "to read" books will understand). Anyway, I'm really glad I checked out this book, because he became one of my favorite authors. I'd recommend it to anyone who is interested in fantasy/mythology, odd things, and/or great writing.

While I enjoy most anything written by this talented author i have mixed feelings about this collection. I do so like short story collections but several of these tales left me frowning and wondering why I even read them. In short, they were too dark for me and a bit beyond what I like to read.

There is a Huga Award winning short story featuing Sherlock Holmes that I quite enjoyed complete with a royal murder that leads Holmes off into an intriguing investigation. A Locus Award winning short story where a group of individuals seek a dish they have never tasted with a unique ending that made me smile. "Feeders and Eaters" was entertaining. And, I quite liked "October in the Chair" and "The Facts in the Case of the Disparture of Miss Finch."

Suffice it to say if you enjoy this author's talent and imagination you will find something you like in this collection. Gaiman has a most fertile brain that keeps the stories and books coming again and again.

Starts out pretty slow, but picks up steam 1/3 of the way through. Great stories.
