Final Payback

Disgraced ex-cop Joey Randall (Richard Grieco) is framed for the murder of Sharon Moreno (Priscilla Barnes), who happens to be the unfaithful wife of the police chief, George (John Saxon). Randall had the opportunity to kill her, and perhaps a motive as well since he was having a hot affair with her before her death. Moreno dispatches corrupt police captain James (Martin Kove) to avenge her death -- that is, to kill Randall -- but Randall is innocent. The hot-headed Randall has to focus himself to find a way to prove his innocence, confirm the guilty parties, and avenge Sharon's death. This isn't going to be easy with the entire police force looking to bring him back dead or alive. ~ Buzz McClain, All Movie Guide

Austin Powers Goldmember

Mike Myers' phenomenally successful spy spoof gains a few more characters, a slew of celebrity cameos, and even more free-associative laughs in this third installment of the popular franchise. Austin Powers in Goldmember continues the exploits of the swinging-'60s leftover, who, as the film opens, is busy critiquing a big-budget Hollywood production of his life story, replete with a 20-million-dollar star in the lead role and a slew of John Woo-style action scenes. But not far from the soundstage lurks arch nemesis Dr. Evil (Myers), who has opened up a talent agency representing some of the industry's biggest stars -- all the while channeling their profits into a diabolical world-destruction plan with the unfortunate code name Preparation H. Dr. Evil presents a distraction to Austin by kidnapping his similarly swingin' father, Nigel Powers, and transporting him back in time to 1975. Travelling there to save his father -- and in turn win back his dad's sometimes-errant affection -- Austin comes across the alluring superspy Foxxy Cleopatra (Beyonce Knowles). The three of them travel back to the present day, where they join forces to battle Dr. Evil and his posse of nefarious evil-doers, including the trusty clone Mini-Me (Verne Troyer); his snotty son, Scott (Seth Green); the inimitable Fat Bastard (Myers); and the eponymous new addition to the fold: the epidermis-obsessed, precious-metal-fortified Dutchman called Goldmember (Myers). ~ Michael Hastings, All Movie Guide

Laserhawk

A teenager who cried wolf now has to warn his neighbors that ill-tempered aliens are on the way in this sci-fi adventure. Zach (Jason James Richter) is a high school student who, in hopes of impressing the other kids, fakes some video footage of a UFO landing which is aired on local television. However, Zach's prank is soon revealed to be just that, and he finds himself an outcast among his peers. When Zach begins seeing evidence of real UFO activity -- strange lights in the sky, school busses disappearing and materializing again -- no one is willing to believe him, except Kara (Melissa Galianos), who is also on the outs at her school. With the help of an eccentric comic book artist and a patient at a nearby mental institution, Zach and Kara try to save their town from an oncoming alien invasion. Mark Hamill also makes a brief appearance. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide

Danger Beneath the Sea

Young U.S. Navy Commander Sheffield (Casper Van Dien) has his nuclear-armed fast-attack submarine taken over by renegade sailors who are certain there has been a devastating exchange of nuclear bombs while they were without radio contact. It doesn't help that one of them was snubbed for Sheffield's promotion. They have the ship's doctor drug Sheffield to keep him in his quarters, giving them opportunities to load and launch the sub's nuclear warheads at targets in Russia in retaliation for their perceived war. Meanwhile, steely Admiral Justice (Gerald McRaney) works topside to have the sub torpedoed before it can start a real nuclear war. Can Sheffield regain command in time to save the world? ~ Buzz McClain, All Movie Guide
