Williamson creates a libertarian fantasy world where all the good citizens of Freehold work together in harmony while all the other worlds in the universe are dominated by evil corrupt democracies in name only. If you like unrealistic libertarian utopian fantasy disguised as a science fiction novel this is the book for you. Otherwise I'd pass.

This is one of the finest science fiction books I have ever read! The author has written 5 books that I know of and all of them have been extremely good! ( I do not usually go by author but by story line!)
The Plot of the book is set in the future and involves a heroine who is unjustly forced by corrupt UN officials ( who are basically the government for the earth and a bunch of colony planets) to flee to the only planet that is not under their control. The culture shock and other factors are even dealt with in the story as are the little details that make it so very real and a great read! The story has a lot of action and adventure in it as you would expect from such a book. I would recommend this book and a parallel book by the Title the Weapon by the same author! He also has written the sniper series set in the current time and about the war on terror. They are scope of justice , targets of opportunity and confirmed kill if you like military fiction all of his books will appeal to you! If you prefer only science fiction I would recommend the two books Freehold and The Weapon

Definite no-holds-barred near-future space opera in the light of John Ringo or David Weber. Starts out with a bang and keeps moving on every page.

From back cover: The innocent flee when everyone pursueth... Sergeant Kendra Pacelli is innocent, but that doesn't matter to the repressive government pursuing her. Mistakes might be made, but they are never acknowledged, especially when billions of embezzled dollars earned from illegal weapons sales are at stake...
