I just found the new format on our profile page and I only have 17 friends. What's up with the friend thing? Do friends do anything more than we do here on the forum?

Monica,

The friends are just another term for what we used to call "buddies". Their function hasn't changed, just the name, afaik

It's just a way of keeping track of people with bookshelves you like, similar WL, people with a WL similar to your TBR, people you've played games with or whatever.
