Anyone have an opinion on Frontline and whether or not it is harmful in the long run to pets? My vet says no, but then again she is prescribing it and selling it to me. I was wondering if anyone has heard otherwise from their vet or found research on their own. |

Many people have wondered about the long-term effect of using Frontline. I have used it for years with no problem. BUT if you would rather have the protection without so much risk, you may consider buying the spray bottle of Frontline - it doesn't absorb into the hair follicle like the "nape of the neck" vial version does. |

My two dogs are ten years old and have been using that product nearly their entire lives. Neither has had any long-term problems. It's a great product for both fleas and ticks. There was one time when I bought another, less expensive brand at a store and my Lab got fleas and ended up having a flea bite reaction with hives. I didn't know that dogs could get hives! You know, I prefer to not use pesticides on my pets, but I've never seen any proof that Frontline (or Advantage) is actually harmful. It (supposedly) does not go any further into the body than the hair follicles. OTOH, I know for sure that fleas and ticks are harmful, especially ticks around here (lots of lyme disease). |
