This book presents an interesting look at the mystery of the woolly mammoth. I had it on my bookshelf for many years and had never taken the time to read it because it looked boring. I am happy to say that it was really intriguing and sparked my interest in the topic. Michael Oard does a great job of presenting the peculiarities of the mammoth extinction; information on mammoth remains found, location of the skeletons, and many visual aides throughout the book.
At times it did go over my head. It was very specialized in its language. This book is definitely written for a narrow audience. You really need to be interested in meteorology or the Ice Age to get the fullness of this book. I think this book would make a great History Channel special. At any rate the book offers interesting ideas about the mammoth and the ice age.
