If someone had told me the northeastern U.S. supplied ice to India for over 50 years I would not have believed them. This is an amazing story of two men who developed an industry against all odds. Yet this industry eventually employed tens of thousands, from idle farmers in the winter to employment to seamen on American vessels, and to the "icemen" who delivered ice every day to iceboxes across America.

This is a wonderful tale of American entrepreneurship which is forgotten today. It also shows how America became addicted to iced drinks.

This book was fairly interesting. The history of the ice trade in the early to mid 1880s. Never even thought about how people back then got ice in warmer climates. Was a pretty quick and easy read, though all the excerpts from old papers and articles got a little old after awhile.
