I finished a thoroughly enjoyable book on which seems to be my Middle East reading tour lately. LOL It's called "Funny in Farsi" by Firoozeh Dumas. Dumas writes about her experiences as a child coming from Iran to the US in 1972. Some of it is typical immigrant experience stuff, but she has such a humorous way of putting things. I felt like I really like the writer and her family in the end. It's a short book, but of very good quality. Anyone else read it? |

Loved it! We had discussed this one, albeit along with at least a hundred others, in the Thoughts on Memoirs thread here. What a delight to read a memoir that didn't bash her family, blame someone for the crappy turn her life took. Reminiscent of Haven Kimmel's Zippy. Highly recommended. She has a sequel to Funny in Farsi. |

I just started reading it! I find it to be very touching. It also offers good (and very funny) insight into the immigration experience. Her second book, LAUGHING WITHOUT AN ACCENT looks good too! Last Edited on: 5/18/09 10:48 AM ET - Total times edited: 1 |
