Here's a hilarious RC that I just got. That husband sounds like a real winner! I wonder if that holds true after a romantic walk in the rain or a long day playing football?

For print books, please due to allergies that my husband has no mildew. mold or smoking odors.

My wife has no dog ears, But she has lots of creases and some highlighting. She has a dust jacket. She calls it her apron.

LOLOLOLOLOLOL! OMG, Thomas that's hysterical!!!

Even with some more appropriate punctuation the meaning is not very clear:

For print books, please - due to allergies that my husband has - no mildew, mold or smoking odors.

What did you respond, Heather?

I accepted the RC because I too have no mildew, mold or smoking odors. :-) Neither does my cat. People have actually told my my books smell SUPER good, I think because I use those Bath and Body Works Wallflowers plug ins in my house. I considered writing back something like "Um, you're writing in a non-readable language" but decided against it. I assume she meant to say "I cannot accept books with mildew, mold or smoking odors because my husband has allergies" or something like that. NO books on PBS should have mildew and mold anyway, but I know people like to restate the rules. I'm just gonna let it slide, she may get turned down a lot b/c of her "Engrish" but my audio book works fine with her requests.

There's something to be said about proper punctuation!  LOL

Are there any other kind of books other than the printed kind that we swap here?  As far as I know, we don't swap e-books yet.

*giggles*  Glad she has no moldy hubby and only wants book that are printed.

Maybe a polite PM to her after the book is sent with a reworded RC.

Don't want to spoil the fun -- but it could be (maybe) that English is not the first language for this requestor....

I assumed she meant that it didn't apply to audiobooks.

I guess I missed the joke.  She sounds like English is not her first language.

It's still funny though. :)

I'd say that English is her first language (English is not my first language so I feel like I can give an informed opinion)

  • Spelling is correct: English spelling is a byotch let me tell you. :)
  • That doesn't make sense in Spanish either (assuming she's 'translating' in her head from Spanish to English)
  • Her biggest issue is punctuation, which from questions I receive via LH, I know is a more wide spread problem than you'd think. :)

I agree with D. G. - although English may not be her first language, I don't think we have any real evidence for that here. The wording is careless, typical of people who don't realize the huge difference between speaking and writing, and therefore don't look over their work before sending. If she had spoken that sentence out loud, there would have been no possible misunderstandings, and it wouldn't have struck us as odd in any way.

I guess illuminated manuscripts would be swappable.
