I was a little disappointed in this book. Normally, I loved Joan Wolf's style of writing and her stores are usually different from the normal regency novels. However, the biggest draw back in this book is how silly the main character is and it does not explain why Earl Winterdale would fall in love with her at first sight. The actions of Georgie can be explained by follies of youth but it makes her an unattractive heroine.

When Georgiana's father dies, she discovers he is blackmailing 5 noblemen. Four for cheating at cards and one for cheating on his wife. Her home is entailed and she must find a way to provide a home for her and her sister. She becomes a blackmailer herself by forcing one of her fathers victims, the Earl of Winterdale, to give her a season in London, so that she may find a husband. His Aunt is formidable, his cousin nice, and he hs a terrible repatation. Danger and intrigue follow. Someone is out to do away with Georgie.

The premise is kind of unbelievable, and this is not one of my favorite Joan Wolf books. Nevertheless, she's a great writer. I normally dislike books books written in first person POV, but for some reason I can enjoy it when she does it.
