I am considering starting/running a contest/game-- not a regular swap kind of game like I usually see when I accidentally wander into the games forum. (All the rules in that place scare me and I haven't been brave enough to try one yet) It is just a trivia contest thing. I am considering offering a prize. I know I have seen, and possibly participated in, some thing like that in "Club Member's Thoughts" and I know there was also a discussion about "keep the games in games"-- so I am not sure of the appropriate forum (if I decide to do it. ) Thoughts? |

You could contact one of the games moderators to see if it needs to be posted in the games forum. There's a fine line but since it isn't a swap per se then I would think having it in CMT would be fine. Doesn't hurt to ask the mods tho. |

I would say that if you are offering a prize, then it is definitely a game. But ask one of the Games Forum moderators to be sure. |

KJ - I'm one of the games moderators and would be happy to answer any of questions about these types of games. Lynne is correct. If there is a prize involved, it would fall into the games category. From the games rules section ~~ Contests where the winner(s) are determined by a competition, for example a trivia contest are allowable. Games in which the host provides a prize and winner(s) are determined by a competition of some sort are allowed. |

So... as I understand it so far: it would be allowed in games. Would it be REQUIRED to be in games, or could it also be allowed in CMT? (I am thinking of running it for a short period--maybe 24 hours-- and don't want to exclude people like me who "never" go to Games...) Last Edited on: 10/31/08 4:50 PM ET - Total times edited: 1 |

KJ, I'm not a Games mod but I do frequent that forum. I believe the answer to your question is "Yes, it is required to go in the Games Forum". Anything with a prize is supposed to go there, that's why we have that forum. Lori was quite sincere when she said she'd be glad to answer any questions. She'd be glad to answer if you PM'd her any other specific questions. :-) |

Thank you Beth - for the answer and the kind words :) The games mods are always here to answer any questions that members have about the games forum. |

I could be wrong, but I think it might be allowable to run the game in the games forum, but put up a post in a forum in which it fits especially well linking to it?

Thanks, Beth. I have no doubt Lori was sincere and would happily answer PMed questions. I have been posting here instead in case others are also wondering. (Thank you also, Lori, for your help.) Last Edited on: 11/1/08 3:57 PM ET - Total times edited: 1 |

I'm so glad you asked that question, K.J. The games forum scares me, too. I feel like a child in an adult's world there. I don't feel comfortable in Las Vegas either, though. So it could just be me! Ruth |

I may be wrong but I didn't see anyone objecting when the "Say Something Nice" game was run in CMT and TPTB certainly didn't step in and say there was anything wrong with it. Games scared me too - now I love em. Jump in if you want to grand time with very little drama EXCEPT the drama of grabbing a book you really like. |
