If you or your child enjoyed the Laura Ingalls Wilder reads, they will love this. It is such a good book, even i liked it and lets say-- i'm over 40. It is the sequel to The Birchbark house but this does not need to be read first. Actually i liked this one bettr. The story of a young girl and she has survived the smallpox plague, but her little brother did not. A band of raggedy homeless people come to their camp and of course their tribe takes them in. They have a baby and her mother grows attached. This tribe lives on an Island in Lake Superior and the young girls name is Omakayas, meaning Little Frog, she is called this because her first step was a hop. This is such a cute book, i believe each book by Louis Erdrich is a winner.
