They were called a generation without heroes. Then they were called upon to be heroes. Within hours of 9/11, America's war on terror fell to those like the Marines of the First Recon Battalion, the first generation dispatched into open-ended combat since Vietnam. They were a new breed of warrior unrecongnizable to their forebears -- soldiers raised on hip hop, internet porn, and video games, a disparate band of born-again Christians, dopers, Buddhists, and New Agers who gleaned their precepts from kung fu movies and Oprah Winfrey. Cocky, brave, headstrong, wary, and moral horrors ahead, the "First Suicide Battalion" would spearhead the blitzkrieg on Iraq and be among the first American combat units baptized in the horrors of Iraq's terrifying guerilla war. Generation Kill is the funny, frightening, and profane firsthand account of these remarkable men, of the personal toll of victory, and of the randomness, brutality, and comaraderie of a new American War.

A book that I kept on my shelf because it was that good. Finally realized I probably wouldn't read it again because I have so many other that I want to read s I and wanted to pass on for someone else. Note my 5 star rating!

Gives you a look into the first days of the IRAQ war and what the marines in this battalion when through. My sister is a veteran of this war and loved it also.

Sorry, I have not read this - It was a gift for my son. He really enjoyed it, however.
