When co-author Caren Haines was raising her son Jonathan Lerman, who is autistic, she observed how hard it could be for him to make friendships feeling "different." Feelings of alienation led to a lack of confidence that affected much in his life. Adopting her puppy Georgie gave her the idea to write a children's book full of easy rhymes and musicality that could stress the idea that friends can be found in unusual places and also, that once you have a dream, you can attain it despite untold obstacles.
