These people GET IT. Both authors lost their respective spouses to illness after long marriages. They each marched through their own intense grief and loss. In this book, they tell their own stories and what they did to handle their grief in order to emerge "on the other side" and become a whole person again. One is a psychologist, one is a pastor. None of the writing is preachy. No solutions are given. Instead, they emphasize that each person must deal with the processes in their own way and make their own decisions. Helpful suggestions and exercises are offered in every chapter. They cover every reality and practicality, such as children's grief, staying single vs. remarrying, etc.

It is their gentle and empowering ideas that I could unequivocally identify with. This book touched me as no close family or friends ever have, because they have been there and experienced it themselves. I highly recommend it whether your loss is fresh or, like mine, several years in the past. It is an excellent, beautiful book. Well worth reading and passing along to whomever might need it.

Of all the books I have read on grief, (and there have been a lot!)There are only 2 I can say really helped and this is one of them. The authors give not only comfort and hope in their stories and through the scripture, but they also give exercises and tools to work through your grief. 6 stars for this book! If you have lost a loved one this book is one you want to read!
