Ghosts and Hauntings Author:Dennis Bardens I am often asked, because of my interest in ghosts and hauntings whether I 'believe in ghosts'. The question is an oversimplification. I do not doubt the testimony of hundreds of people over the centuries. I say 'hundreds' because that would be the minutest proportion of the many thousands who have testified to ... more »seeing phantasms and other extraordinary phenomena. The prevalence of such testimonies cannot in my view be dismissed as the product of disordered senses, the delusions of those predisposed to believe in such things, or illusions produced by abnormal atmospheric conditions. The persistence of certain types of haunting, the very great number of phantasms which have appeared at the moment of death, and the degree of corroboration which exists with many known hauntings, makes me say, if I am asked the usual question: 'Ghosts do exist, but don't ask me what they are or what conditions cause them to appear, or why some people see them and others don't. It is a mystery which may be solved one day, but there is a great deal yet to discover. In the meantime, laugh if you wish; I agree that there's nothing quite so funny as the idea of a ghost -- until you happen to meet one.' -- Dennis Bardens (author)« less
