Gideon's Power - Gideon, Bk 15 Author:J. J. Marric (John Creasy) Commander George Gideon, of Scotland Yard, was standing on the Chelsea Embankment looking toward the big power station nearby, which had been sabotaged that morning. The damage hadn't been substantial, but it had been enough to worry Gideon, and he was not a man easily worried. — Over a period of two or three months prior to this incident (which... more » had caused a blackout over a sixteenth of London and had affected half a million people) there had been other reports of sabotage in power plants which served heavy industry.
And no one had been able to find out who'd been doing it.
Gideon knew that unless they found the culprit there could be other blackouts, and on an even larger scale, which could disrupt the whole of London and lead to disaster.
So he was worried. Finding out the cause of the sabotage was his chief problem at the moment, but there were other problems to concern him, too. A deadly factory fire, a number of child murders, and some troublesome subordinates.
A man who had to supervise the handling of all the major crimes in a city as big as London, and had to keep an eye on 8,000 or so detectives, needed broad shoulders and a wise head.
George Gideon, fortunately, was both broad-shouldered and wise, and as he surveyed the power station he was preparing to cope with that problem--and all his other problems--successfully, he hoped.
