Although I usually love her books, I wasn't too happy with this book. I believe it was one of her first books that has been re-issued. Very slow moving and I just wanted to slap most of the characters and tell them to grow up. :)

I can definitely see how much she's improved after reading this old book. I enjoyed it but I felt it moved slow and had a lot of internal character dialogue that seemed neverending. I'm glad I read it though. I did enjoy it.

This was so much like a soap opera, too many stories going on at once.

A classic contemporary version of a Rengency novel, by a master of the genre. This isn't her best, but it's a fun read, and Mary Balogh knows the era meticulously.

Mary Balogh - always enjoyable. This is an old book re-published. Historical novel. In England Andrea Purnell is kidnapped in a case of mistaken identity. She is "forced" to become engaged. Previously and obedient biddable daughter she awakend to herself as an individual and exerts her right of choice.

I usually love Mary Balogh's books, but I had to force myself to finish this one. I just wanted to slap the heroine for being such an idiot.

All romances are not created equal, and Mary Balogh is certainly a cut above. A reprint of one of her early books (1989), this one has a serious vein not often seen in romances. I highly recommend it if you like your fluff to have more substance!

I loved the book in the beginning. I thought Alex was a great heroine until she became TSTL. For no reason that I can see she began reject a perfect gentleman. The last 3rd of the book I hated every choice Alex made until the last 10 pages.

I am going to try the next one in the series because I did enjoy the first half of the story. I am hoping the Balogh can keep it going in the next book.

The Gilded Web was first published in 1989, although Balogh's writing has changed I enjoyed this first book in a series of three. I am anxiously awaiting the next one.
