This was a bit of a slow start that built into a page turner, so don't give up!
Realistic story of a Dutch girl and the effects of the war on her and those around her.
Great detail of places and accounts, relatable characters and once it gets going, it is wonderful.

I read many books on the Holocaust, but very few of them are set in Holland during the German Occupation. This book is for young readers, but it has a very mature theme. Hanneke is a Dutch girl who makes ends meet by procuring goods and selling them on the black market in Occupied Holland in 1943. This is her little way of resisting the German occupation and keeping her parents fed. She is recruited by a resistance group, and also tasked with finding a missing Jewish girl by one of her customers. The situation becomes dire as Hanneke will stop at nothing to rescue the missing girl. Suspenseful and interesting.
