The movie is being released in the US over the next couple of weeks.  Usually I am a bit apprehensive about seeing a good book made into a movie,  but in this case I am a bit curious.  Just wondering if it will be dubbed or subtitled.  Subtitles distract me from the movie as I am trying to read them,  http://dragontattoofilm.com/

I loved the book, I can't imagine it being a movie they would have to cut so much out. I might go see it though.

It did well in Europe and it's supposedly pretty decent...I've only seen the second one (in Swedish, which was subtitled in the Netherlands, but movies are almost always subtitled there).  I'm not a big fan of the books so I couldn't really say which was better, but I hope it's not dubbed.

I didn't even know it was a movie. I've only read the first one and didn't think it was that great--it was okay, but not worthy of all the hype. I have the second one here and do intend to read it, but I wasn't in any great hurry after reading the first one.

The author (or his editors) could have cut at least a third of the book out and had a much better book, so if they do that to the movie, maybe this is one instance where the movie would be better. I'll probably wait for the DVD.

I believe it will only be limited release in the US since it is a foreign language movie.  So look for it at your local arthouse theaters.   But according to imdb.com,  it looks like a US version is listed as 'in development'  for release in 2012.   But sometimes the 'in development'  projects never see the light of day.

It was a Time Magazine Pick of the Week for movies in the 3/25/10 issue:

"Author Steig Larsson describes his hacker heroine, Lisbeth Salander, as pierced, pale, reed thin and punk.  In the Swedish film version, which opens in the U.S. after dominating the European box office, Noomi Rapace delivers: her spot on Lisbeth is even cooler than we imagined."

I personally liked the 1st book, but the 2nd was better.  The 3rd is a continuation of the 2nd, so put it on your WL fast.

Uh oh!  The 2 movie reviewers on TV (I forgot their names) said Swedish movie is extremely violent. They are hoping the American remake will be better.
