So I get this in a BOB after seeing it on several peoples list of best YA books to give it a read. I finished my last book and decided to give it a go. Excellent story, easy to read, descriptive, thought provoking. It reminded me a lot of a play we did in high school called the Handicapper General, where everyone whoer devices to make them equal (weights if they were strong, a disrupter in their ear if they were too smart, etc) And then I got to the end. Not quite sure how I felt about that. If you've read it, please give me your thoughts. |

I haven't read it but thanks to some ding dong who put a spoiler in the reviews, I now know how it ends. :/ Too bad too - it looked like a good book! (By the way Heather - we can't see your blinkies - they're cut off...) |

I thought it was an excellent book. Makes you really think about some things that are done in our soceity today to make people "equal" and protect people from themselves. I didn't understand the end of it -- was he escaping or was he dying?

Pat, that's part of the mystery of the end......you don't know if it's real or his imagination. |

I love this book! And the next in the series, Gathering Blue. The third, Messenger, I was close to bored. I am going to give The Giver a quick go through and will post back after I do. Last Edited on: 7/1/08 12:04 PM ET - Total times edited: 1 |
