I know they say this is a "young people's guide" but actually, it's great for adults as well. It's a fast but interesting overview of myths from various cultures and geographic regions, from ancient Egypt to Aztecs and Chinese, etc. Each chapter (which covers a different culture) opens with a general discussion of the myths and myth-based religions and includes an encyclopedic listing of the major gods, goddesses and mythologic characters. Scattered throughout are illustrations that range from beautiful to amateurish. All in all, a fascinating book for all ages.
