In a way this is a standard fantasy quest novel, but it also has elements of cutting edge science and intriguing science fiction. Perhaps this last is affected by Wolverton's Star Wars novel, THE COURTSHIP OF PRINCESS LEIA. A nice, fun read.

From back cover: The insectoid Dronon invaders have slain Semaritte, ruler of ten thousand human worlds. Only her clone survives to rally the forces of humanity. Pursued across a multiplicity of worlds, she enlists the aid of Gallen O'Day, a cocky yo8ung bodyguard from a backwater planet. Along with the beautiful orphan Maggie Flynn and Orick, an intelligent black bear, Gallen must become the champion of The Golden Queen.
